GARDENIA is a 400 square
foot studio apartment in the Chocolate Hole area of St. John, less
than a mile from several beaches, 15 minutes from St. John's
famed North Shore Beaches, and 1 mile from the main town
of Cruz Bay. This newly built apartment has large sliding
glass doors that open onto a private tiled deck and garden area.
Relax at an outdoor dining table to the sounds of birds chirping,
lie in the warm Caribbean sun, or float under the stars in the
Jacuzzi spa. Inside you will find the comforts of home
with a large kitchen, living and sleeping area and a large bathroom
with shower. Comfortable, convenient, private, and sparkling

Questions
Q: Is Gardenia in an apartment complex?
A: No. Gardenia is the downstairs apartment of a private home in a quiet,
wooded residential area of St. John about 1 mile from Cruz Bay. There
is a convenient parking area designated for Gardenia guests. From the
parking area, you walk down steps on the outside of the house and turn
to enter the covered deck of Gardenia and the private dining, spa, garden
area. There is good sound insulation between the apartment and the residence.
No other homes can be seen from the apartment or deck and garden area.
Sliding glass and screen doors open from the deck into the apartment.
Q: Does Gardenia have a view of the water?
A: No. The ocean can be seen from the driveway area, but the
plants and trees block the view from Gardenia.
Q: How far to the beach?
A: Chocolate Hole Beach is a few minutes drive, and you step out
of your car 20 feet from the beach. Hart Bay Beach is a short
drive and 5 minute hike (access only by foot). Both are less than
6/10 mile from Gardenia and about a 15-20 minute walk. Both are a
mixture of sandy areas and rocky or coral areas. Both have good
snorkeling, good beach combing and few visitors. The famed North
Shore beaches of the National Park, with pristine white sand
accented by palms, are about a 15 minute drive from Gardenia, or
a $7.00 taxi ride.
Do I need a vehicle?
A: Most of our Villa renters also rent a vehicle for maximum convenience
and flexibility. You can explore the out of the way bays, viewpoints or
restaurants at your own pace and schedule. Rental rates range from $300
to $390 per week. However, some of our Gardenia renters choose not to
rent a vehicle and they manage quite well. It is a $4.00 per person taxi
ride from Cruz Bay to Gardenia. From Cruz Bay to the North Shore Beaches
you can usually find a shuttle taxi for $3-4 per person. From town there
is a $1.00 per person bus that runs from the ferry along Centerline Road
to Salt Pond Bay, with numerous stops along the way. They run about every
hour. (The schedule is at the ferry dock and in the guest book at Gardenia.)
Others supplement these modes of transport with hitchhiking, still
quite acceptable on St. John.
